Recognised worldwide as the bartenders’ choice, it is the ‘taste of intensity’ of Tanqueray gin that lies at the very heart of its numerous drinks accolades.

Tanqueray’s Early Beginnings

It was in 1830 that Charles Tanqueray first established his distillery in London’s Bloomsbury. Wanting to make the world’s best gin, he set out to create the most distinctive, crisp, dry gin on the market.

His aim was to make a stylish and sophisticated gin that would be enjoyed by his friends, peers and those of impeccable taste, a vision of a world-class gin that continues to this day. The unique recipe has been passed down through generations and remains a closely guarded secret, entrusted to just four people.

Tanqueray’s Taste of Intensity

To ensure the smoothest of tastes, the spirit is distilled three times before botanicals are added for the fourth and final distillation, which means there is nothing to mask the aromas of the botanicals or cloud their taste. To deliver the intense taste unique to Tanqueray gin, only the finest botanicals are used, including juniper, coriander and angelica - just one in every 10 Tuscan juniper berries is deemed good enough for inclusion. By bottling the spirit at a higher ABV than most of its competitors, Tanqueray retains its unique flavour even after dilution, enabling it to deliver the perfect ‘Tanqueray & Tonic’. All Tanqueray gin is now made at a single distillery, at Cameronbridge, Scotland, ensuring consistent quality and balance of flavour.

Tanqueray, The Bartenders’ Choice

Over the years Tanqueray has been favoured by style leaders; from allegedly becoming the drink of choice for Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, to consistently picking up accolades from awards juries the world over. In 2007, the makers of Tanqueray gin collected Double Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for the fourth consecutive year, as well as the title of ‘Best Gin in Show’.

The brand received the ultimate seal of approval when, in two independent global bartenders’ surveys (conducted by Two Minds Research in 2006 and 2008) it was named as ‘the bartenders’ choice’ of gin, an accolade which firmly endorses the distinctive taste of Tanqueray that cuts through mixers and produces world class cocktails. Tanqueray came first in the majority of categories including “best tasting gin”, “best quality gin”, “best gin for cocktails”, “the gin seen in the very best bars”, “the gin they would recommend to customers” and “the gin with the most heritage”.

Tanqueray’s Iconic Design

In keeping with the distinctive taste of Tanqueray, the bottle is also a clearly recognisable brand trait. Unchanged since 1948, the shape is based on a classic three-part cocktail shaker, while the distinctive T-seal on the front of the bottle continues to be seen as a guarantee of authenticity and quality, reminiscent of early Tanqueray production when the bottles were sealed with wax. The look is completed with a pineapple on the bottle top; a feature of the Tanqueray family crest and universally recognised as a symbol of hospitality.

In today’s crowded marketplace, Tanqueray stands out as a gin with substance as well as style, recognised by barmen and consumers alike.
